Adobe Photoshop CS2 on Kubuntu Gutsy with Wine 0.9.54

Supposedly Adobe Photoshop CS/CS2 now works on any Linux distribution using Wine. Here is how I made it work on my machine:

1. Open a terminal and paste the following commands one by one – hit ENTER after each one .

  • wget -q http://wine.budgetdedicated.com/apt/387EE263.gpg -O- | sudo apt-key add -
  • sudo wget http://wine.budgetdedicated.com/apt/sources.list.d/gutsy.list -O /etc/apt/sources.list.d/winehq.list
  • sudo apt-get update

2. If you do not have Wine installed already, go to Add/Remove and search for Wine and install it. If Wine is already installed simply use the updates available in the systray.

3. Hit ALT+F2 and paste the following command:

  • wine iexplore http://appdb.winehq.com/

Install it.

4. Search on Google for the Tahoma font with the following string:

  • tahoma filetype:ttf

Save it on your desktop, then move it to the Wine fonts folder (full path -> /home/yourusername/.wine/drive_c/windows/fonts).

5. Adobe Photoshop CS2 is now ready to be installed.

This is ofc not legal everywhere (anywhere?) so I don’t know if I should be typing this but here is a working Adobe Photoshop CS2 – Link (torrent)

configure: error: Can’t find X includes.

Many times I run in to this and always have to check the net for a fix cause I never remember it so now I’m going to be smart which took me few times of stupidity and type it down here.

Error:

checking for X…
configure: error: Can’t find X includes. Please check your installation and add the correct paths!
Error during sources configuration. Installation aborted!

Fix:

sudo apt-get install kdebase-dev

Kubuntu Gutsy: Privacy Cleaning

The KDE Control Center offer ways to clean privacy, In case you hadn’t noticed. The following screen captures tells 3 different ways how to.

Adding the WineHQ APT Repository and upgrading

I noticed my installation of Wine was not the newest version anymore. To add the Wine respository is a good way to keep up in upgrades. The instruction is available at the Wine HQ on this link:

1600 x 1200 Wallpapers

I’m preparing to reinstall my Kubuntu Gutsy, thereamong includes saving of files and I am thinking that I am not going to have to burn a CD with my stuff so instead I am saving links and have created a folder with wallpapers online that I thought I would share here. In the format 1600 x 1200 you will find 25 or so wallpapers if you click on the image below which is of one of the walls.

The credit should of course go to the respective creators.

Color Schemes for KDE

Here follows a few links to color schemes for KDE that I find likable.

How to install color schemes in Kubuntu Gutsy:

  • I believe that by default is the KDE Control Center not linked to in the menu. Perhaps I am remebering it all wrong but if you do not have it in the menu right click on the menu icon on the panel and select Menu Editor and view the capture below.

  • Under Appearance & Themes are Colors found. When Colors are selected there is an Import Scheme option where to import themes from your computer. More difficult than that it’s not.

A Software that do the Compiling for you.

I have used Kompile a while now and it works well. What is does is to handle ./configure make & install, instead of you doing it manually.

PluginPack for Pidgin

Always thought that the default plug-in selection with Pidgin was a bit too minimal but here is a PluginPack with no less than 51 plug-ins.

Pidgin Extra Plugins Capture

I couldn’t tell you which repository made this possible for me but you could give it a try. Just copy and paste the following into the console of your choice:

sudo apt-get install pidgin-plugin-pack

Comics are always fun.

I Don’t Like Super Karamba

I see many use Super Karamba. I don’t like Super Karamba because the eye-candy is not candy to my eyes. It look plastic, it look cheap. I have probably seen only one or two Super Karamba widgets that I actually like but similar features are available through other sources than Super Karamba so therefore I don’t think that it is worth an installation of Super Karamba. Why did I choose to write about this? I don’t know :-) . I suppose because from what I can see – so many like Super Karamba.
